I've been thinking about Nursing lately and what area I would like to go into. There's soooo many different things to chose from and I want to make the best choice. In my psychology class 5 out of 6 of us are going into nursing. They're always talking about what they want to do and how much different nurses make... well of course I wanna get the most I can after putting forth so much effort. This is where YOU come in... tell me what you know about nursing and the different areas. I know I have a few nurses that read :)

go into emergency...then you'll always have good stories to tell. That or labor and Delivery...That would be cool!
I don't know much about nurses, but I do know that I love it when I have a good nurse for my babies. My favorite nurse right now is Tina at my kids doctors office. She is the best with them. She is in the right field for sure. I don't remember much about my L&D nurses, since you are only there a short time, but I remember the one that helped me deliver Jackson- she was THE BEST. She was my life saver for that day!
You are going to be a great nurse whatever you choose. You make the best of every situation you are in, and you make people around you feel important, those two things alone are going to help you be great at being a nurse.
I hear from the ladies on my mornign bus (they work at Loyola Hospital) that ER nurses are in high demand and also the pediatric critical care unti - like where the premie babies go. or surgical nurses.
I heard that the surgical nurses just get bossed around all day by egotistical Surgeons. hand me this, hand me that, get me my....I don't want it set up that way...do it this way..I did a rotation in surgery and that's the way they were talked to. Plus you stand ALL day with no break and no stool. It's cool for like the 1st hour...then your just staring ar the same ole' persons insides for the next 6. Seems like it would get boring, but there are obviously people out there that love it.
oh, and when you do your clinicals...you will rotate through each unit in the hospital (ER, surgery, Peds, NICU, PICU, AICU, etc.) So you'll get to see which area you're particularly interested in. Plus, most hospitals offer a program for new RN's that allow you to "work" in any unit you want for any length of time you want until you make your decesion as to where you want to be full time. Plus,plus...you can transfer to another floor anytime you want(if there's an opening there)or even if you just need a change of scenery.
hope i'm being helpful...and not annoying!
thanks! everyone's info is helpful... def not annoying!
