"presents all gone?" - Darcy

We had a wonderful Christmas... all 3 days of it! We got to see Heather and Michael who are home from New Mexico. We also saw my personal favorite - Aunt Helen.... she's matthew's great aunt. (((I'm trying to convince her to move closer but she's like one of those nomads that just wander around from place to place :) ))) And we saw some other family that we only see once a year.

Christmas Eve we went to the Brock's and exchanged gifts with Matt's dads side of the family and later that night his mom's side of the family came over for their annual gathering.

Luckily we had already wrapped our presents so Christmas eve night we were able to relax... although I had to prepare for having my family over for Christmas. I volunteered to make mashed potatoe's (along with some other side items). I knew I better not make instant potatoes so I bought a bag of potatoes and peeled them all Christmas Eve. My poor hands were all sore afterwards. I later found out instead of peeling a 5 pound bag I had gotten a 10 pound bag! Needless to say we had plenty of mashed potatoes... my mom ended up making potatoe salad so it wouldn't all go to waste.

Christmas morning we woke up around 8:30am and opened presents. Everyone was happy with what Santa left for them. Over those three days the children loaded up on toys. And most people bought 2 of everything for the boys! Jessica got an ipod, Darcy got a talking Dora kitchen and the boys got little walkers they push around. Matthew got a new gun and I got a new duvet cover! We had a great christmas and we're looking forward to the new year!

Funny stuff:
Darcy understood more than we thought she would. She would say Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas. She also knew Santa put presents under the tree... to hear her say 'under the tree' was priceless. She opened presents for 3 straight days but once they were all gone she was sad. She'd walk around and say "presents all gone?"

The boys have gotten more active and we've played for several hours at a time in the floor with all their new stuff.

Jessica got some much needed 'under garmets' but when she opened them in front of Matthew I thought she was going to hide under the tree! She also got a volleyball net that she had never asked for but I thought it would be a good present... and it made me feel sooooo good when she was thrilled to get it!

We played a game with my family on Christmas day. We each thought of famous people and we put them all in a hat and we had to draw them out and try and get our team to guess who we were talking about by giving them clues. There was a one minute time limit to see how many your team could guess. For example one name you drew might be Tom Hanks and the clues you would give might be... He played Forrest Gumps... you could give as many clues as neccessary. Well my hubby is really smart and he loves history so some of the names he put in the hat were people the rest of us had never heard of... including Indian's that we couldn't pronounce! Matthew drew one of his own indian names and he was giving clues to my dad and brother in law... his clue was He created the Cherokee Alphabet... well we busted out laughing... and my dad said "yeah we all know that one!" I guess it was just fun to see who all ended up in the hat and what clues you gave to your team. I'm looking forward to playing that game again. I went to bed thinking of more names to add!!! LOL

Ring Ring

When I moved to Jemison I didn't realize that everyone that I used to call locally would now be considered long distance. Over the past several months I've had to cut back on ALL phone calls. So if you haven't heard from me in a while now you know why. Most of you have a few people you call thats long distance... but for me... everyone I know is long distance. I used to be able to use my cell phone to make calls but we no longer have them. I just wanted everyone to know why they haven't heard from me.

Finally

Jacob went from a lying down position to a sitting up position all by himself!!!! Jeremiah hasn't conquered this yet.

Did I tell you they both have 6 teeth a piece!

And nope... not crawling yet. Darcy walked at 9 months!

They definitely have twin speak... they talk to each other all the time... and laugh too. Its way cute.

All kinds of stuff...

Some questions that I never answered:

How's my friend Lisa doing?
She's much better. Her near death experience was eye opening for her. She still struggles with some health problems and always will but she's not on her death bed.

How's my friend Rocky doing?
Rocky will always be sick. At times his disease is worse than others. Spending weeks in the hospital is a normal thing for him. But the older he gets the scarier it is for him. He thinks "is this it" often.

Did I get the toddler beds from freecycle?
NOPE! I emailed the lady saying I wanted them... she emailed me back saying I could have them. I emailed her asking where she lived and when could I pick them up. The next day she reposted them on freecycle saying no one ever picked them up. I sent her another email saying I was waiting for her to give me directions. She emailed me back in ALL CAPS and said I ONLY HAVE ONE LEFT IF YOU STILL WANT IT - FINE!... I emailed her back and said "no thanks... sorry for the confusion"

How's my mom?
Well I know its been a while since I posted about her having brain surgery... she had it and she recovered. I have no idea if whatever caused her to have the surgery in the first place is fixed or not. My parents keep to themselves their health problems. I assume everything is okay.

What did we do about our carpet?
Nothing! We decided not to file a claim b/c the carpet can be replaced for less than our deductable. We haven't replaced it yet b/c we don't have the money. There's a huge chunk of carpet missing in our hallway. The nook just before you walk into our laundry room is completely ripped up and a little section is missing in the laundry room. We're hoping to tile the laundry room and nook. Hopefully we can replace the hallway with hardwood floor. We plan on ripping up the carpet in the living room and replacing it with hardwood floor after we get our income tax return.

Pig or Dog?
neither at this time. Pigs are not small. There's no such thing as a mini pig. Its a starved pig! And I don't want to get a dog until after we put up a fence b/c if the funds don't come through I do not want to be stuck with a dog INSIDE!

What happened with Old Navy?
Well the whole point of me getting a part time job was for me to get out of the house and make some extra money. I actually said "if we could make an extra $100 a week that would be wonderful!" Well that very next pay day matthew's check was $100 more! We had changed our dependants and it made a difference. Instead of saying "wow, God answered my prayers!" I got greedy and said "wow, now we can have $200 extra a week!" I continued to pursue Old Navy... I called them 3 days after I filled out my application. I was told to call back in an hour... I called back in an hour and I was told to call back the next day. ((( all i was trying to find out is if they'd gotten my application --- I'd did in online)))) So I called back the next day and was told someone would call me back in a few weeks. I was pretty frustrated b/c I didn't understand what was so complicated about getting a job at Old Navy! I called back a week later and was told to call back in a hour... I did and then I was told someone would call me back the next day... they never called. Now instead of realizing that during all this time I was praying... God was trying to close this door but I was deteremined to open it. Then finally it hit me so I stepped away. HOWEVER.... We are exploring the possibilities of me getting a part time job so that we can get our savings back on track... maybe the reason I didn't get a job before is b/c during the holidays you work like crazy and I'd be away from my family... we'll see :)

If there's anything else I left unanswered just let me know and i'll try and follow up ;)

Overwhelmed

A lot of things have been going on here lately... mostly things I can't say here. My kids are great and my marriage is wonderful so before your imagination goes wild I thought I'd throw that out there.

The other day I found something out that really weighted heavy on my heart. My heart hurt for someone... actually its 2 people. But I've been praying and seeking God as to what to do or say.

Jessica is taking exams this week... FIVE of them actually. I don't remember taking exams at that age. You should have seen the amount of stuff she had to know for her history exam... waaaaay too much info if you ask me. She's been studying and I'm sure she'll do fine. She's also in the middle of basketball season. She's got to play way more than I expected... and has made some awesome plays too! No baskets but other good things. She's stolen the ball twice!

Darcy has got a new saying and she knows when to use it. I guess she's heard us ask her "why'd you do that?" way too many times. The other night we were getting ready for bed and matthew did something and without any hesitation she looked at him and said "why'd you do that?" I couldn't stop laughing!!!!! Then last night she couldn't make up her mind where she wanted to sleep so after trips down the hall she ended up in our bed and when Matthew walked in the door with her she said "why'd you do that?" She's a mess!!!! She also likes trains... and last night as we were leaving the Brock's she found someone's christmas present... a Thomas the Train pull train. Of course she went crazy and now someone has one less Christmas present but Darcy is enjoying her new train. In fact, she slept with it last night, today at nap and I'm pretty sure its in her arms tonight. Oh and Darcy's new hiding place... the air vents in the floor. You'd be amazed at what we pull out of there!

Jacob and Jeremiah aren't crawling yet but I'm expecting them to any day now. They both get up on all fours and rock but thats about it. They roll everywhere they wanna go. Jeremiah shakes his head "no" alot... He just starts laughing and shaking his head... its cute. Jacob is more vocal and more aggressive. He pulls the spoon out of my hand when I feed them.

Matthew... oh my matty patty. Today he came in from work telling me about what he'd done today. Apparently one of the guys was messing with him b/c he was using a little harmer today instead of his big one. Well to show them how sturdy it was (or whatever he was trying to prove) he banged in on his hard hat... except he didn't have it on! LOL He said it took him a minute to realize what he'd done and of course everyone was laughing! He said it hurt really bad but he just laughed it off. Poor guy!

Well i'd better get to bed... my days start early and this week b/c of the half days of school I've got to get everything ready so we can hang out in Alabaster so we don't have to drive back in forth.

night night

THANK YOU!

My dear friend, Denise sent me a package from Chicago, IL... it was 3 different snowmen ornaments... very cute little fellas! And if I was a smart cookie I would have taken a picture to post on here but I'm too tired to do that right now... maybe later.

O Christmas Tree

My poor tree has been through a lot this year. We really thought if we threatened Darcy enough she'd finally leave the tree alone.... not so. First we had to decorate the tree half way down with all the 'good' ornaments... then we left the bottom half with the not so breakable ones. She's managed to break the non breakable ones and what she hasn't broken she's rearranged or hidden them.

This morning after breakfast I vacuumed the floor and put the boys back in their saucers... I almost put them in the floor but decided against it for the time being.... It must have been God b/c about a minute and half after deciding to leave them in their saucers Darcy pulled the entire tree down on top of her! It missed the boys by inches but had they'd been in the floor they might have forever been scarred by our Christmas tree attacking them. Darcy was fine... just scared. My tree.... well its smushed and what ornaments that she hadn't previously broken are now broken! I wanted to cry but I remained calm. I thought about taking it down completely but I realized I was just angry and maybe... just maybe after pulling the tree down on top of her she might not mess with it again. I'll let you know ;)

so thats my morning so far.... they're all taking naps at the moment. after nap time I'll get them all bathed and dressed so we can be at Jessica's bball game by 4.

The Flood

Man oh Man when it rains it POURS!

Thursday morning Sam and Tiffany, along with their boys, arrived around 4:30am. We spent the day catching up and playing with the little ones. Friday was about the same. Friday night we had planned on having a get together for everyone that told Sam and Tiffany that wanted to see them while they were here... well only one person showed up... which was fine by us. Jamie B and her boys came and they all played well together... rough too! LOL The boys would chase each other up and down the hallway and wrestle in the living room. At one point I walked down the hallway and noticed a wet spot in the middle of the hall. I brushed it off as someone had spilt something. A little while later I noticed that it had grown big time. The hot water heater had sprung a leak and soaked the entire floor surrouding it. But the amount of time it took was no time at all. I called the insurance guy this morning and he came out to look at it. He told me to get some carpet estimates and he'd get in touch with the restoration people. He said we'd need to pull it up and have them soak all the water out of the decking and it might have to be replaced. Well in the mean time I've gotten a estimate, found out my deductible and have been giving new directions. I am to have Matthew pull out the hot water heater, rip up the carpet to see if the boards are warped and put an dehumidifier in the room to get all the water up. It looks like filing a claim is not going to be our option. The estimate for the carpet is $594 and my deductable is $500... the fixing and restoration part can all be done by my hubby and his dad but we're still out having the carpet replaced... i'm bummed. We definitely do not have the funds to do this at this time but our house is already smelling pretty sour and we do not want to have a mold issue. For the health of our children this is unavoidable. please pray.

My Accident

About a week ago I left one night to get groceries. On my way out of the neighborhood I heard a thud against the passenger side of the car but I looked and didn't see anything. I just assumed it was the carseat that matthew had forgotten to strap in. On my way back from the store I started to make the turn where I had heard the noise AND THERE IS WAS.... It was dark and I couldn't tell exactly what it was but I knew it was BIG. I went home and told Matthew that I had hit something and I wasn't sure what. He walked down to the end of the street and came back for a flashlight b/c he couldn't tell what it was... He just knew it was BIG. He thought it was someone's dog but couldn't tell for sure. He said there was blood everywhere! Finally he figured out what I had hit. I went back with my camera...

Here it is.... It's hard to tell the size in this picture but this possum was at least 3 feet long. When I came back home from the store its tail was straight but it had curled up by the time I'd gotten back with the camera. Posted by Picasa
